Kenneth S. Short, Sr.

July 14, 1933 — March 29, 2017

Kenneth S. Short, Sr. of Farmington passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at St. Anthonys Medical Center at the age of 83 . He was born in St. Louis, MO, on July 14, 1933 to the late Seaburn and Gladine (Martin) Short. He was a direct descendent of Sarah Barton Murphy, the founder of Farmington, MO.

Ken proudly serviced his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He began his educational career in California and received his B.A. degree after leaving the military service. After returning to St. Louis he was a teacher in the Lindbergh Schools. Over the next several years he received his Masters and Specialist degrees from SIU while working for the Lindbergh and Fox School systems. He later completed the doctorate program in Education Administration (less the dissertation) from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Ken chose a second career in 1979 becoming a State Farm Agent in Arnold, MO. After a successful 20 year career, Ken retired to Farmington.

Ken was a 32nd degree Mason of the Arnold Lodge #673 (charter member), the Farmington Elks Lodge #1765, and a life member of the NEA.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Janet (Yeager) Short. Survivors also include: a daughter, Denise (Jim) Schott of St. Louis and Mesquite, NV; two sons, Kenneth Short, Jr, and Kyle (Sharece) Short, both of Farmington; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Gwen) Hanks, Jacob Schott, Kyle Short Jr., Kameron Short, Kaleb Short, Robby Noll, and Carley Noll; and one great granddaughter, Zoe Hanks. Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Young of Granite City, IL, Barbara Dennison of Lake St. Louis, MO, and Linda (Lester "Skip") Davis of Cottleville, MO, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 2. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Monday until the service beginning at 10:30 in the Cozean Chapel with the Rev. Darryl Rhodes officiating. Interment at Hillview Memorial Gardens will follow with military honors and will be accompanied by the Patriot Guard Riders.
