IRONTON Carl Winfred Alvers of Hogan passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at the age of 95. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 31, 1924 to the late Jestern Carl Alvers and Beatrice Ada (Berry) Lockhart. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Kent Alvers; his granddaughter, Lori Marie (Crocker) Helms; his sister, Dorothy Rogers and his wife of 71 years, Peggy June (Bailey) Alvers, who he married on September 8, 1946. Carl was a retired U. S. Navy veteran, having served from 1942 to 1967. He proudly served during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. When he retired from the Navy, he went to work for the Philco-Ford Corp and moved to Alabama to work on the Shillelagh Missile System. After that he and his wife, Peggy, started Alvers Pedigree research on purebred dogs all over the country. They continued this service until the death of his wife. Carl enjoyed many hobbies through the years including roller skating, photography, drawing, leather stamping (which he learned to do aboard ship), and playing piano, accordion and organ. He had a friendly and outgoing personality and many people commented on how much they loved his laugh. Survivors include his son, Carl, Jr. and wife, Linda and his daughter, Retha and husband, Roger Crocker; daughter-in-law, Betty (Gayoso) Alvers; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A private memorial service with military honors will be held at a later time.
