Darrell A. Watson

October 3, 1923 — February 21, 2017

FARMINGTON Darrell Aubrey Watson of Farmington passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Parkland Health Center in Farmington at the age of 93 years. He was born on October 3, 1923 at Flat River son of the late William A. and Jetta L. (Oelsen) Watson in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Harlan and Willard Watson, and three sisters Wilma Watson, Dora Stewart, and Belva Mae Leigh.

Darrell proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II, during which he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart, and captured, spending several months in a German POW camp, an experience he often spoke of and wrote about. He remained in the service through the Korean and Vietnam Wars rising to the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring from the Army in 1972. Following his retirement from the Army he began working for the U.S. Postal Service and in later years he worked as a bus driver for the Farmington R-7 School District. He was a long-time and faithful member of the Farmington First Baptist Church.

He enjoyed "piddling" and was a very good and resourceful handy-man, planning and completing many projects for family, friends and church over the years.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of over 56 years, Dorothy (Orlando) Watson of Farmington, two children, Daniel A. (& Linda) Watson of Pensacola, Florida and Dorene A. (& Mike) McCrackin of Lake St. Louis, two grandsons, Daniel J. (& Amanda) Watson of the State of North Carolina and Dale M. McCrackin of Lake St. Louis, a brother Clarence O. (Wanda) Watson of Festus, a sister Oneida Crader of St. Louis, and numerous other relatives, dear friends, neighbors and his dear church family.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Farmington First Baptist Church. A Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Farmington First Baptist Church with Dr. William C. Miller officiating. Interment services with full military honors will follow at the Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve County. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Farmington First Baptist Church.
