STE GENEVIEVE - Donald Gene Hammers Sr. of Ste. Genevieve passed away October 5, 2018 at his residence at the age of 81. He was born September 6, 1937 in Ste Genevieve County to the late Marvin McKinley Hammers Sr. and Lottie (Rector) Hammers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jean (Kennedy) Hammers, a sister, Jean Bradley and two brothers, Marvin McKinley Hammers Jr. and Carl Brown Sr. Donald was a former roofer in the construction industry and a member of Roofers Local 220. He was a dedicated and very valued member of Genevieve Baptist Church where he served as the trustee and volunteered on the building and brotherhood committees. Donald deeply loved his family but more than anything he loved the Lord. He also ministered in the nursing care facility. Donald was a talented musician who played many instruments and gifted singer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, lawn care, and dancing with his wife. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his children, Tonia (& husband Kelly) Dugger, Donnie (& wife Jeannie) Hammers, Kari Majors, Larry Majors and Gary Majors, six grandchildren, Jamie Dugger, Justin Dugger, Cassie Lynn, James (Sidni Bloom) Dugger, Shelby (& husband Kevin) Hawkins and Marki Hammers, seven great grandchildren, Riley Johnson, Dakota Lynn, Hunter Lynn, Abiagael Dugger, Christopher Dugger, Lilly Lynn and Bryleigh Dugger, twin brother, Ronald (& wife Geri) Hammers, brother, Wilburn Hammers, brother in law, Leroy Bradley, nieces, nephews, his church family and many friends. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 9 at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning until time of service beginning at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel. Interment will follow at Genevieve Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Genevieve Baptist Church, 8631 Genevieve Church Road, Ste.
