Dorthy Hilda Shannon (“Dotty”), age 92, passed away September 14, 2025, at Presbyterian Manor in Farmington, Missouri. She was born in Sprott, Missouri to Isaac and Hilda (Stange) Shannon on November 19, 1932.
Dotty grew up in Sprott, Missouri; and although she lived in St. Louis County for several years, she resided in Farmington most of her life. Shortly after graduating from Farmington High School, Dotty became a flight attendant for Ozark Airlines in St. Louis (which later became TWA). She and her sister, Della, served domestic flight travelers for many years in this capacity. Because of Dotty’s natural bent for serving others, she later went back to school to earn an associate’s degree in nursing, becoming licensed as a Registered Nurse. Her knowledge, skill, and compassion equipped her to care for others who were battling health challenges. She gladly and voluntarily cared for family members and others in her community throughout the rest of her life, for as long as she was able.
Dotty enjoyed traveling to foreign countries around the world. In line with her giving spirit, she would always bring back souvenirs for family members. She was an intelligent, cheerful person who took interest in the lives of all her loved ones. Her home in Farmington was the common meeting place for family reunions and get-togethers. A member of First Baptist Church of Desloge, Dotty enjoyed sitting under Bible teaching and preaching. Throughout her life, she appreciated the classic hymns she had learned as a child at Little Vine Baptist Church and School.
Dotty was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Hilda Shannon, her brother Eugene Shannon (Shirley), sister Della Ebe (Hubert), and brother Paul Shannon. Dotty is survived by her sister, Doris Mitchell (Markiel) and by many nieces and nephews who loved her.
Visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel in Farmington at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Davy Skaggs. Interment will immediately follow at Little Vine Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. In honor of Dotty, you may send a memorial gift to the charity or ministry of your choice.
