PLANO, TX - Ernest Raymond Melvin, formerly of Farmington, Missouri, passed away May 10, 2016 in Plano, Texas, at the age of 91. He was born March 15, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Charles William Melvin and Clara Marie (Kitowski) Melvin.
Ernest was a World War II Navy veteran who served from 1943 to 1946 as a Seaman, 2nd Class Reserve. After the war he and his wife, Jean Bernice (Plume) Melvin lived in St. Louis, where Ernest worked as a truck driver and a police officer. They enjoyed many years of retirement in Farmington.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and his brother, Frank Arthur Melvin. Survivors include his two daughters, Jean Louise (Melvin) (Mrs. Eugene) Kastanek and Susan Ann (Melvin) (Mrs. Mark) Sinclair; his grandchildren, Shawn (Wendy) Copeland, Kim (Copeland) Sherman, Kevin Kastanek, and Patrick (Nancy) Kastanek; 11 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Graveside services, under the direction of Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with Father James Dyer officiating. View the online obituary and share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
