Fern Joy Smallen

FARMINGTON - Fern Joy (Powell) Smallen of Farmington entered into eternal rest March 25, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born March 22, 1943, in Farmington, Missouri, to Martin Lewis Powell and Iva (Patterson) Powell. Fern worked right out of high school at United Bank/Mercantile/U.S. Bank for 20 plus years. She then worked at and retired from Farmington Public Library after 20 years of service. Fern was a faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Dewey and Pauline Smallen; a sister, Connie Jean (Powell) Smith; a sister-in-law, Grace (Glatt) Powell; and a brother-in-law, Dewey Wayne Smallen. Fern is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Paul (Gene) Smallen, whom she married on September 7, 1963. Also surviving are two children, Christina Lynn (Tom) Schrautemeier and Eric Eugene Smallen both of St. Charles; two grandchildren, whom she adored, Andrew Thomas Schrautemeier of Farmington and Alex Christopher Schrautemeier of St. Charles; a brother, Gale Martin Powell; a brother-in-law, Robert M. Smith; a brother-in-law, Larry (Katie) Smallen; a sister-in-law, Tracy Smallen; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 5 - 9 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ron Beaton officiating. Interment to follow at Parkview Cemetery.
