FARMINGTON James "Jim" R. Dawson of Farmington passed away Tuesday, March 22, at the age of 66. He was born May 31, 1949 at DeLassus to the late Richard Lee and Alma (Fraser) Dawson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Dawson.
A 1967 graduate of Farmington High School, Jim went on to serve his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served in Spain and Germany until 1971. For 30 plus years Jim was a rural letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service until his retirement. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with people. He was an avid sports fan and the St. Louis Cardinals have lost one of their biggest fans. Jim was a member of the First Assembly of God of Farmington. He loved spending time with his family (especially one special great niece, Peyton).
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Diana (Elders) Dawson; children, Darrell Miller of Festus and Dana Miller, (fiance Brian Nolan) of Farmington; two grandchildren, Darren Coleman and Tessa Coleman of Farmington; two sisters, Ida May Taylor of Farmington and Becky Goodman of Desloge; two brothers, Guy Dawson of Farmington and Charles Dawson of Arnold; a brother-in-law, Richard Lee Elders and wife, Pam of Farmington; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are many friends and church family.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 24 from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday morning beginning at 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God of Farmington until the time of the service beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Davis and Rev. Joe Kochis officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Hillview Memorial Gardens. Memorials, if desired, may be made to First Assembly of God Church of Farmington.
