FARMINGTON – Karen Jean Mai, of Farmington, passed away on December 25, 2025, at Parkland Health Center at the age of 76. She was born on November 8, 1949, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to the late William Walters and Mable M. (Engleman) Walters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Vardell Mai; her sister, Janice “Janie” Pezel; and her maternal grandparents who she made her home after her parents passed, Henry and Bessie Engleman.

Karen worked at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center as a ward clerk for 42 years. She was married to Rodger Mai in 1970 in Fredericktown, and they shared many happy years together. She was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Farmington congregation, where she served as a genealogy specialist. Karen had a great sense of humor and a great outlook on life. She enjoyed cooking, resale and thrift shopping, and her pets.

Survivors include a brother, Donald “Buck” (Linda) Walters; a niece, Angela Dawn Pezel; a brother-in-law, Tom Pezel; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Natvig.

A private interment is scheduled at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, where Karen will be interred next to her late husband, Rodger. Share your memories and condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
