Kelly Michelle (Bertrand) James, of Farmington, Missouri, entered eternal rest on August 3, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 31, 1978, in Mexico, Missouri, to Mike Bertrand and Barbara "Barb" (Kehl) Bertrand.
Kelly leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Hannah Michelle James; her mother, Barb Bertrand; her father, Mike Bertrand; her sister, Holly Landolt (Doug); her nephews, Jacob Landolt and Shelby Lee; her niece, Jenna Landolt; her faithful canine companion, Maggie; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles and Mary Kehl, and her paternal grandparents, Harold and Theresa Bertrand.
Kelly was a proud graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, earning her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development in 2000. She dedicated several years to serving as a special education teacher, where her compassion, patience, and love for children made a lasting impact on the lives of her students. Following a life-changing accident, she was no longer able to continue her teaching career, but she embraced each day with strength and determination, cherishing the time spent with family and the simple moments that brought her happiness.
Kelly had a creative spirit and enjoyed baking delicious treats for family and friends, losing herself in a good book, making handmade soaps, and appreciating the comfort of a well-earned afternoon nap. She also had a special place in her heart for the many dogs she loved and cared for throughout the years. Nothing brought Kelly more pride and joy than watching her daughter, Hannah, dance. Whether at her dance studio or performing with the Farmington High School Knightline Dance Team, Kelly treasured every opportunity to cheer her on, even when she could not be there in person. She loved watching Hannah do what she loved and celebrated each performance with admiration, pride, and unconditional love. Kelly's family was the center of her world, and she cherished the moments she shared with those she loved.
A memorial visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Alan Berry officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. View the video tribute and share your memories and condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
