LouEtta Smith

August 11, 1943 — April 6, 2025

Cape Girardeau

LouEtta Smith, of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, in Perryville, Missouri, at her lifelong partner's home at the age of 81. She was born on August 11, 1943, in Anna, Illinois, to Harry Daniel and Josephine (Mille) Williams.

LouEtta is survived by her longtime partner, Dave Meyer of Perryville; her sons, James Alan Smith (wife Crissey) of Tamms, Illinois, and Jan Kenneth Smith of Wycliffe, Kentucky; her grandson, Jason Smith (partner Sara Simms) of Ullin, Illinois; and her beloved great- granddaughters, Effie Alexander, Emily Khea, and Kodie Ann Smith. She is also survived by many other loving family members and friends.

LouEtta was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Josephine Williams, and her siblings, James Harry Williams, JoAnn Baugher, and Diana Williams.

She will be remembered fondly as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family deeply. Her passion was her great-granddaughters, whom she adored. She also shared a special bond with Dave’s family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, loving them as her own. LouEtta had a servant’s heart and was a true blessing to all of us—her family, Dave’s family, and her many dear friends. She was special beyond words and will be dearly missed.

After graduating from Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, Illinois, LouEtta worked in factories, served as a waitress, and even ran her own business. She found joy in simple pleasures—tending to her flowers, spending time with horses, cooking, and baking, and generously sharing her creations with neighbors. She loved dancing at the VFW and especially enjoyed two-stepping with Dave. Her warmth and kindness touched many lives.

Per LouEtta’s wishes, no formal service will be held. However, a Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday,  April 27 from 2–5 p.m. at The Terrace attached to Petunia and Lily’s, 119 North Jackson Street, Perryville, MO, for all family and friends who wish to honor her memory.
