FARMINGTON-

Marvin Eugene "Gene" Allen of Farmington passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at his home at the age of 87 years. He was born on October 24, 1928 in the Avon Community of Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri. Gene was the son of the late Marvin Henry and Clara Jane (Gregory) Allen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Jane McGuire.

Gene proudly served his country in the US Army, first from 1948-1949, and then was recalled during the Korean War from 1950-1952. Gene and his sister, Beverly Jane were baptized together at the Pleasant Hill United Baptist Church. Gene was later confirmed and became a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Farmington. He was married to Doris Jean Zimmer on August 19, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, the beginning of a partnership that lasted almost 66 years. Gene had a dual career for many years as a mail carrier and real estate agent. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1984 after over thirty years of service and honored recognition for going above and beyond the call of duty. Gene was a member of the Farmington VFW Post #5896, Ste. Genevieve American Legion Post #150 and the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1765 of Farmington.Gene was an outdoorsman, a fisherman, a sportsman, and coach, a collector of coins, a true and compassionate friend - always the jokester, a lover of family and life and the life he lived was truly great!

He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him, including his wife, Jean (Zimmer) Allen, three children, Rebecca June (Allen) Crawford and Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jane Anne Allen of Los Gatos, California, and Randall Marvin Allen of Farmington, two grandchildren, Adrienne Michelle Kiesel (& Mark Galley) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jacob Allen Kiesel (& Emily Hackbarth) of Denver, Colorado, one great-grandson Asher Henry Paul Galley and one on the way, Baby Boy Hackbarth-Kiesel, a brother Kenneth (& Kim and special niece Malaina Kai) Allen, of Farmington, a sister, Reba (& Bobby) Mell of Farmington; brother-in-law Don McGuire, special friends Francis "Baldy" Basler and Herman Baechle, numerous favorite nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and many dear friends.

Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. with an Elk's Memorial Service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning at the Cozean Chapel from 7-9 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Foss officiating. Following the funeral, the procession will be led by the Patriot Guard to the Pleasant Hill United Baptist Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve County for interment with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the St. Paul Lutheran School, the Pleasant Hill United Baptist Church Cemetery, or the Farmington Elks Lodge # 1765 Scholarship Fund.
