She was born at home in Carthage on September 16, 1923, the only child of the late Ray and Bess (Blue) Owen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William W. Denney in 2004 and her son-in-law, Phil Hoge in 2015.

After Bill's retirement they moved to Shell Knob, Missouri where they enjoyed living on Table Rock Lake for ten years. While living there Mary Lee was the organist at the Shell Knob Christian Church. She and Bill were fortunate to have spent nine winters in South Florida. An avid lover of playing bridge Mary Lee also cherished having long friendships with the many people she met along her journey of life.
