Omer L. Propes

FARMINGTON Omer Lee Propes, of Farmington, passed away at his residence on February 15, 2017 at the age of 87. He was born June 23, 1929 in Coffman to the late Fred and Margaret (Coulter) Propes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Balding) Propes in 2005; two children Larry Ray Callahan and Sherry K. Callahan (Presson); and three sisters, Ada, Martha and Julie Propes.

A hard worker, Omer went to work at the age of twelve to support his family when his father was killed in an automobile accident. He joined the Army in 1951 where he served two tours in Korea. He then joined the Air force and worked on communication towers. After his military service he returned to the area in 1957 and worked for a short time for the railroad before going to work at the State Hospital in Farmington as a Therapist Aide. After thirty-three years there he retired and enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He was close to his family and enjoyed all the times spent together with them.

Survivors include several grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Judy) Propes; nieces, nephews and extended family. Also surviving is his beloved canine companion, Max.

Friends may call on Tuesday, February 21 beginning at 9 a.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel until the funeral service time beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow Tuesday afternoon at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery beginning at 1:30 p.m.
