Randolph "Ranny" Joseph Lorch Jr.

Randolph Joseph Lorch, Jr., affectionately known as “Ranny,” passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Ranny was the first of six children born to Randolph Joseph Lorch, Sr. and Marcella Lorch. He graduated from Lindbergh High School in 1962, where he distinguished himself as an outstanding swimmer and athlete.

Ranny attended Washington University- St. Louis and Southeast Missouri State University. He spent his career as a car salesman, serving customers throughout Cape Girardeau, St. Francois, and Madison counties. He was known for his outgoing personality, quick wit, and ability to connect with people.

A proud United States Army veteran, Ranny served his country during the Vietnam era and carried that service with great pride throughout his life.

Ranny believed strongly in giving back to his community. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge #1765 in Farmington and was honored as Elk of the Year in 2023-2024, an accomplishment of which he was especially proud.

Later in life, Ranny discovered a special joy through his involvement with Young People’s Performing Arts in Farmington. Being part of the group brought him tremendous happiness and gave him the opportunity to entertain others in a way that perfectly suited his personality. He performed in numerous Nutcracker ballets and Christmas productions, taking on memorable roles including the Butler, Mother Ginger, and even Santa Claus himself. He embraced every role with enthusiasm, humor, and a willingness to have fun.

Above all, Ranny was a devoted father and grandfather. He was immensely proud of his two children, Dr. Jason (Jennifer) Lorch of Paducah, Kentucky, and Sara (Scott) Berry of Maui, Hawaii.

His grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart: Madeline, Megan, and Olivia Lorch, and Lauren and Jake Bishop. As a grandfather, Ranny continued his lifelong tradition of bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His humor, playful pranks, and larger-than-life personality created countless memories that his grandchildren will carry with them forever.

Ranny will be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, his service to his country and community, and his ability to make people smile. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Ranny was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Marcella Lorch; his brother, Dennis Lorch; and his beloved wife of more than 30 years, Shirley Berner Lorch.
