Richard L. Arning, of Farmington, entered eternal rest on October 29, 2025, at Country Meadows in Park Hills, at the age of 83. He was born on May 13, 1942, in Centralia, Illinois, to the late Theodore and Aliva (Claybourn) Arning.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margie Arning; his daughters, Debbie Hutchings (Wayne) and Cheryl Martinez (Dave); and his former son-in-law, Tim Russell, who remained a close part of the family. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amber Ross (Cameron), Michael Jaramillo (Amber Lee), and Jacob Russell; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Natalie, and Lily; his sisters-in-law, JoAnn Arning and Shirley Arning; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard “Rick” Louis Arning; and his brothers, Bill Arning, Fred Arning, Virgil Chapman, and Charles Chapman.
Richard worked for many years as a self-employed paint contractor, where he took great pride in his craftsmanship and attention to detail. Outside of work, he found joy in his hobbies—building street rod cars and riding motorcycles. He was a proud member of the Foothills Car Club, where he shared his passion for classic cars and made many lifelong friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Country Meadows and Preferred Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness, and compassion shown to Richard and his family during his final days.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Michael McGuire.
