Robert B. Manley of Farmington, MO, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009, at Farmington, at the age of 93 years. He was born on June 30, 1916, at Farmington, the son of the late Henry W. Manley and Madia (McKamey) Manley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba (Rickus) Manley, who died on April 17, 2005, by a brother, Jack M. Manley, and by three sisters, Ms. Bess Cebe, Ms. Betty Manley, and Mrs. Alice Clark. Mr. Manley attended Southeast Missouri State University, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the University of Michigan Law School. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on board the destroyers USS McDougal and USS Hawkins as a Communications Officer and Executive Officer. He was Officer of the Deck on the lead ship entering Tokyo Bay at the conclusion of World War II. In 1946, he joined Mr. J. P. Cayce and practiced law with him until Mr. Cayces death. He was then a sole practitioner until forming a law partnership with Kevan L. Karraker in 1985. He retired from the practice of law in 1995. During his practice he was privileged to have two excellent secretaries, Marie B. Huffman and Marilyn Pirtle. He was a member of the St. Francois County Bar Assn., the Missouri Bar Assn., and the St. Louis Bar Assn. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington, as Chairman of the Mercantile Bank of Farmington, and on the Advisory Committee of the Farmington Public Library. He was also a member of the St. Francois Country Club, Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by two sisters, Mary (Manley) Crouch of Farmington, and Helen (Manley) Nicholson of Choteau, MT, and a brother, Jim Manley and wife, Audrey Manley of Dallas, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and by many friends. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009. Visitation will resume on Friday from 7 to 9 a.m. A funeral will follow at 10 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Rick Broadway officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Manor or the Farmington Public Library.
