Robert Eugene Volbert Sr. of the Farmington area passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 72 years. He was born April 25, 1937, in St. Louis, son of the late Nicholas and Mollie (Gray) Volbert. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Volbert. Robert was a native of St. Louis before joining the U. S. Air Force in 1954. After completing a 20 year career in the Air Force, he retired in 1974. In later years, he gave his time to the Bonne Terre VFW Post #6883, where he was in the honor guard and color guard. He served as a national recruiter for new members of the VFW as well. Robert truly enjoyed the camraderie of his fellow post members. He is survived by a son, Robert Volbert Jr. and his wife, Ginny; a daughter, Carol Rieser and her husband, Roland; three grandchildren, Michael, Robert III, and Amanda; and a great-granddaughter, Mabel. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held later that day at 2:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post #6883 of Bonne Terre.
