Rosemary Jeanine (Hupfeld) Knittig of Farmington passed away May 7, 2010, at her residence at the age of 78. She went to be with her husband of 60 years, Frank Joseph Knittig, Sr., who had just left us seventeen days ago on April 20, 2010. She was born on November 1, 1931, in St. Louis, daughter of the late Eugene Frank and Myrtle Josephine (Kossman) Hupfeld. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Raymond Frances Hupfeld. Her very first job was as a Christmas package wrapper at the age of 15 at Sears & Roebuck in St. Louis. On July 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Frank Joseph Knittig Sr. Frank and Rosemary lived in Lemay after their marriage until 1959 when they moved to High Ridge, MO. She was a homemaker and mother until their move to Farmington in 1964, where she was employed at Lees Shopping Center. In 1983 she took a job with Harris Heating and Cooling. Her next employment was with Taum Sauk Meat Company. Later she worked for Mineral Area Hospital as a ward clerk. Shortly thereafter she began working at Flat River Glass were she retired after 15 years of service. Rosemary has been a long-time parishioner of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Farmington, and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary in Bonne Terre. She was active in the Optimist Club and Elks Lodge of Farmington. She joined the Desloge Eagles Aerie #3350 and was a member from 1968 through 1996, where she served as Secretary and State Treasurer. She is survived by six children: Sharon Jean (Mike Sr.) Vargo, Cecelia Ann (William) Stoner-Marshall and Nancy Lea Pate all of Huntington, IN, David George Knittig of Albuquerque, NM, Eileen Marie (Gary) Eckhoff of Desloge, and Frank Joseph (Rachel) Knittig Jr. of Park Hills. Along with her children, she is survived by her grandchildren: Michael E. (Anna) Vargo Jr.; Jeannette M. (David) Koughn, and Stephanie Pate, of Huntington, IN; Jeremy L. Vargo of Indianapolis; Mathew S. (Crystal) Vargo of Lafayette, IN, Shannon V. (Mark Conn) Knittig of Roanoke, IN; Eileen M. Knittig, Phoenix, AZ; Eric N. (Jennifer) Davis Jr. St. Louis; Michelle Davis, Fort Wayne, IN; Amy (Scott) Francis, Janesville, WI; Duane Eckhoff of Bonne Terre, Christopher Eckhoff of Park Hills, Kyle Eckhoff of Farmington, Dylan Eckhoff of Desloge; Jessica Pate of Hope, IN, and Ashley Williams of Park Hills; great-grandchildren: Jacob Vargo, Kayden CT, Kimber Davis, Derik, Evan, Vanessa Koughn and Ryan Alwine all of Huntington, IN; Wyatt Pate of Hope, IN, Brennan Francis of Janesville, WI, Wyatt, Austyn, Lillian and Emily Eckhoff of Bonne Terre and Kayden Eckhoff, of Farmington. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, with Parish Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial at New Calvary Cemetery.
