Royce Lee Huffman, 81, of St. Louis, formerly of Farmington, Missouri, passed away on April 29, 2026. He was born on May 1, 1944, in Fredericktown, Missouri, the son of Walter and Murna Huffman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dallas and Kenneth Huffman. He is survived by his daughter, Meredith Luedecke, her husband Steven, and their children, Claire, Jack, and Maxwell.

Royce graduated from Fredericktown High School before serving honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he moved to Nevada, where he served on the police force. In the early 1970s, Royce returned to Fredericktown and enrolled at Mineral Area College, where he met his future wife, Linda Mattingly. They were married on August 14, 1976.Together, Royce and Linda moved to St. Louis, where they both earned bachelor’s degrees from Maryville University and Webster University. Royce began his career at McDonnell Douglas, working as a graphic designer in the graphical design department. During this time, the couple traveled to Peru to adopt their daughter, Meredith, a moment that brought great joy to their lives.The family later settled in Farmington, where they became deeply involved in the community. Royce worked for the Social Security Administration and also served as an adjunct instructor at Mineral Area College. He often shared that teaching was his true passion and something he wished he had pursued earlier in life.Royce and Linda were active members of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington and were involved in many local organizations, including St. Paul Lutheran School, Farmington High School, Mineral Area College, and the Ballet Arts Center.Above all, Royce was devoted to his family. He could often be found coaching, teaching, and supporting Linda and Meredith in all their endeavors. Whether offering guidance, sharing laughter, or simply being present, he brought steadiness and love to those around him. His role as “Gran Gran” was especially meaningful to him, and he delighted in bringing joy, storytelling, and a playful spirit into the lives of his grandchildren.

Royce was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, rarely missing a game and always eager to talk baseball. He was known within the family as the all-time Scrabble champion, with a remarkable gift for words and a competitive spirit to match. He also shared his love of Star Wars with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories through stories and imagination.Above all, he will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country and community, and his passion for teaching and learning.

There will be a gathering of family and friends to honor Royce's life on Tuesday, May 5, beginning at 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Mattingly officiating.  A private graveside will be held at a later time.  View the tribute video and share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
