Russell Hartley

Russell Hartley, 86, of St. Peters passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009, at St. Charles, MO. He was born on January 9, 1923, at Paragould, AR, son of the late Oscar and Janie (Hazel) Hartley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Hartley and a sister, Velma Halstead. He attended school and graduated from Carbondale (IL) High School in 1941. Mr. Hartley proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. In February 1943 he married the love of his life, Louise Haynes in Farmington, who survives. Russell worked as an accountant in the automobile industry for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards and other sports, especially bowling and golf. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Terry (Mrs. Tom) Burkett, and Linda (Mrs. Jerry) Ripp, a son, Kevin Hartley, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special nephew, Tommy Glisson. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Cozean Chapel with the Rev. James Barker officiating. Interment will be at Zolman Cemetery.
