Listen to Obituary

Virginia Mae Head, of Farmington, entered into eternal rest on December 7, 2025, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis at the age of 98. She was born on August 27, 1927, in Yount, Missouri, to the late Anderson Edward and Sadie Ellen (Upchurch) Broker.

Virginia is survived by her son, Bruce Head of Farmington; her grandchildren, Jessica Thompson and grandson-in-law, David Gray, Kevin Liddell, Bradley Moyers, Sarah Richardson, and Heather Richardson; her great-grandchildren, Logan Liddell, Ethan Harrison, Ryne Harrison, Kenadi Harrison, and Grayson Liddell; and her great-great-grandson, Korben Liddell. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Gary Liddell, along with many other extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Victor” Head, who passed away in 2010, and her daughter, Marla Grogan.

After graduating high school, Virginia worked in shoe factories in Perryville and St. Louis for twenty-two years, until she and her husband adopted their two children. She then devoted ten years to being a loving housewife and stay-at-home mother. She later returned to the workforce as a psychiatric aide at the Farmington Mental Health Center, where she worked for ten years before retiring.

Virginia was a longtime member of the Farmington Christian Church, where she served as both a deaconess and later an elder—one of the first women to hold that role. She enjoyed music and singing and was a dedicated member of the church choir for 60 years.

A vibrant and active woman, Virginia loved dancing, especially polka and square dancing. Following her retirement, she delighted many by performing as a Minnie Pearl impersonator. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 5896 Ladies Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society of Potosi, and served as an ombudsman for two area nursing homes for 20 years. She cherished her visits with residents and often said, “They make my day.”

Virginia will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel, officiated by Pastor Alan Berry. Interment to follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
