Welcome to Our Website

Thank you for visiting our website. You are about to discover that while Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory traces its heritage back to 1864 when Abraham Lincoln was President, our basic goal has never changed over the past century and a half: to provide families with the finest care, compassion, and professionalism. Guided by our distinguished history, we believe that our services are the most comprehensive of any funeral home in this part of the state. Indeed, of the approximate 25,000 funeral homes in the nation, Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory has ranked in the top two percent for the past nine years in the National Funeral Directors Association’s Pursuit of Excellence program. We know of only two other funeral homes in the State of Missouri that have been so honored

As a long-time member of the International Order of the Golden Rule, we have always sought to live up to that organization’s motto of “Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do to You

Jon Cozean receiving a award by the Order of the Golden Rule for our firm's 20 year Membership in OGR at its annual convention in Washington, DC in April 2012.

”We believe that our most important duty as a funeral home is to celebrate the lives of loved ones with dignity, compassion, and personalization, to provide families with the finest in care at a price they can afford, to offer families making funeral arrangements a wide range of choices in services and merchandise, to make available a meaningful after-care program for those in need, to provide the finest facilities, and to employ a staff of professionals who are fully committed to the Golden Rule.

For the past four generations of family service, our funeral home has kept abreast of the latest developments in the funeral profession. Not surprisingly, we were the first funeral home in our area to employ a lady embalmer, to offer a motored hearse, to use air conditioning, to adopt color printing in our funeral handouts, to utilize high-quality tribute videos that families can watch for years to come, to computerize records and paperwork, and to introduce and always provide (free of charge!) webcasting so that families and friends anywhere in the world will have the opportunity to view funeral services at our facilities. Our staff works hard to help families discover ways to honor loved ones through personalized services by walking you through the entire process. Our funeral home offers an array of alternatives for the family—from the most conventional ceremony to one that uniquely depicts an individualistic memorial. We maintain a lending library to help families through the grieving process. When making funeral arrangements our staff makes sure you know all of your options. Our on-site crematory, unique to St. Francois County and one of only two in southeast Missouri, assures that the precious remains of loved ones will not have to be sent elsewhere to a third-party facility.

Jon Cozean Receiving our funeral homes 11th Pursuit of Excellence Award from NFDA President Robert T. "Bob" Rosson at the National Funeral Directors Association's 2013 convention held in late October at Austin, Texas.

Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory is a recipient of the 2013 National Funeral Directors Association's (NFDA) Pursuit of Excellence Award, placing them among the top 2 percent of funeral homes nationwide. This elite group of professionals is dedicated to maintaining a positive image to staff and adherence to only the highest ethical and professional standards.

Achieving a Pursuit of Excellence Award requires that a funeral home must meet strict quality service criteria that include: compliance with state and federal regulations; continuing education and staff development; family outreach and support; community service and education; professional association service and participation and marketing, advertising and public relations.

NFDA is the leading funeral service association, serving approximately 19,000 individual members in the United States and other countries.  Of the 154 funeral homes that received this year's Pursuit Award this past October at the NFDA's 2013 national convention at Austin, Texas only two other Missouri funeral homes received this honor: Schrader Funeral Home & Crematory at Ballwin and Holman-Howe Funeral Home at Lebanon.  This is the eleventh year in a row that Cozean Chapel has received the Pursuit in Excellence Award.

While our website is constantly evolving and updated, you will find individual pages that offer, historical listing of those we have served dating back to the mid-1940s, information on preplanning and aftercare, our firm's history, tribute videos, links with florists, profiles of our staff members, and a look at our facilities.  We also offer other features that might be unnique to the funeral profession anywhere in the nation. Being proud of our home-town city of Farmington (population 16,200), we maintain on this website information (both photos and texts) on community events, churches, motels, and restaurants plus various community links for the benefit of out-of-town visitors to Farmington and our funeral home.  For a number of years we have also provided extensive photo coverage of Mineral Area College baseball and Farmington High School football as well as other sports.

We always welcome feedback from the public on ways to improve our funeral services and web site so that we may continue to provide the finest and most complete services in our town, county, state, and even the nation. You can contact us at any time by phone at 573-756-4541 or via the internet at cozeanfuneralhome.com or cozeanchapl@gmail.com. We welcome the opportunity to answer your questions about our funeral home. We would love to hear from you!
